5 Tips To Get (and Stay) Calm & Grounded
- We've all been there - you open your eyes, grab your phone, open your mail app and before you know it your nervous system is on fire. Experiment with taking a few minutes to stretch, breathe or at the very least, brush your teeth before diving into emails, texts, and social media.
- Friends, we are all dehydrated when we wake up and this can lead to feeling groggy. Try to finish one cup of water before your coffee.
- Eat something with protein, complex carbs and healthy fats within 1 hour of waking. This will stabilize your blood sugar which can help decrease anxiety. Continue to feed yourself every 3-4 hours and remember to drink water.
- I know the 3 pm coffee is tempting but what your body likely needs is a glass of water, a snack and a break from screens/people. Take 10 minutes outside (preferably without your phone) and just sit. You might close your eyes and take some breaths or just watch the leaves on the trees. Bring a glass of water back to your desk and a snack.
- If available to you, try to go to bed around the same time every night. Our bodies love consistency - it builds safety on a nervous system level.
